Why has my return not been processed yet, it has been almost 72 hours and it still is not accepted or rejected by the irs at all. I have never had this issue before.

Really believe there is a glitch in the turbotax software. I have the same issue, after 72 hours I still had not received an email indicating that my return had been accepted or rejected. I reopened my return on my turbotax software to check the status and got a error message that the software couldn't reach the server and to retry later. So I retried several more times and finally got a response that said "Congratulations, the IRS had accepted your return, and that I was finished with my taxes!" However, I still HAVE NOT received a "Confirmation Email from Intuit Turbotax" confirming my return has been accepted by the IRS. This year's Turbotax Software has been sluggish and unresponsive on several occasions this years. I've been using Turbotax for many, many years, and this is the first time that I can remember having these kinds of unresponsive issues with the software. FYI it take several attempt for the software to connect to the server to check for updates.
Ya, mine has been pending over a week, turbo tax said it was submitted and pending but on my state's revenue website it sais they still haven't received anything, what's going on?
I waited days before I went ahead and filed on TaxAct and my return was accepted immediately. I got a email 5 days later from Turbo Tax telling me it was rejected because the IRS had already received a return. I didn’t have time to wait on them. I’ll use TaxAct from now on.
Mine been in process for last 3 weeks turbo Tax estimate was for today 2/11/25 but it’s website says it haven’t been processed yet it’s still on the first bar out of 3 bars idk what going on was expecting it today not processing for 3 weeks and then another 3 weeks to get it
@Hwachenheim thats not true at all. TurboTax lying about that too. I had a form 5965 credit and two children claimed and had my taxes approved same day when re-filing with TaxACT on 1/30. Already got my refunds in my bank
I efiled my return nearly a week ago and it is still listed as processing. IRS check online states no such return/error. I am so furious at TT. So many problems the past few years.
Now I don't know what to do. I need my refund. Efiled return appears permanently stuck in processing limbo (I have NEVER had it take more than a few hours to be accepted); my guess is TT messed up somehow with transmission. In a few days I am going to have to mail via certified mail a hard copy and label duplicate of efiled return via TT giving date and printout of TT transmission. Of course that is going to delay things for months. Anyone have a better suggestion?
Doubt I will do TT anymore after this. Going back to pen and paper after decades of using TT.
Thanks but this IMO is more of TT stonewalling and gaslighting.
Am printing out and mailing my return via USPS...thanks TT (NOT).
Perhaps if TT actually wants to keep long time (decades) customers, TT should stop always blaming the IRS and/or the customer for TT created issues/problems. Posts by users show this is almost certainly a TT issue since others can and have efiled elsewhere and gotten almost immediate acceptance (after being left in limbo by TT) rather than being left in limbo for weeks with returns probably never advancing or actually being submitted to the IRS due to some TT issue.
I’m having the same issue. Previous years I’ve filed and haven’t had any issues with updates and processing speed. This one still shows for both my federal and state just shows processing and no updates since I file in mid Jan for my federal and late Jan for my state. Tried to contact the irs and the state but the machine picks up and no actual operator to answer the call. This is frustrating.
This is IMO typical TT stonewalling and gaslighting to cover up their problems and blaming customers and IRS. None of what they say is credible IMO based on customer reports. Between this and activating problems among other things just this year not to mention tons of problems last few years I am done with TT.
Sending my return now by usps since cannot stand at this point to reenter everything in another sw program. Next year I will try taxact as they have a desktop version. Thanks to all for suggesting it.
In the community we do not have access to information about your refund.
If you want specific information you will have to call TurboTax Customer service. Here is a link: Turbo Tax Customer Service
Where's my Refund is the most accurate information as it is directly from the IRS. Once your return is filed, TurboTax has no control over the processing of your return or the release of your refund. The TurboTax site can only update if the information is provided for the software to update. This doesn't always happen so the information shown on TurboTax could be behind.
The IRS is who is issuing your refund, not TurboTax, so the IRS has the most up to date information.
Not sure to whom you are actually replying, but my post wasn't about refunds per se. It had to do with not receiving any acceptance/rejection notification of efiled returns after days to weeks which in previous years have in my case come back through TT within a few hours and at most in a day. Since so many others are having the same problem, and some who have finally given up on TT and efiled again elsewhere and have gotten an immediate or almost immediate response wrt acceptance/rejection within hours, I have to seriously wonder whether or not TT actually transmitted my efiled return especially since checking the IRS site (possible since I am owed a refund) shows error/not found. Finally gave up on TT and took and mailed paper return from USPS so at least I know it was actually filed though will greatly delay my refund.
To me it certainly doesn't in the cases where customers are efiling again elsewhere (ie other than TT) successfully doesn't seem to be an IRS problem. Unfortunately in my experience TT always tries to blame the customer or the IRS even for the problems caused by TT. Given another huge problem this year with the endless activation login loop--clearly a TT problem but TT provided NO help--and was also late with some forms that the IRS had available (though TT claimed not) IMO TT has no credibility anymore.
So thanks for responding, but as usual, IMO TT sidesteps the issues and never addresses the real questions. Given all the problems the past few years I have experienced after decades using TT, next year I am going elsewhere and looks like some others are too. I realize TT doesn't care anymore about their customers, IMO it is blatantly obvious.
Please no need for any TT employee tax expert to respond, it is a waste of everyone's time. Customers will IMO just need to eventually figure out how to fix or address the problem (efile elsewhere, file paper return, continue to wait for however long?|) as best meets their individual circumstances.
For TT to disclaim any and all responsibility re transmitting of efiled returns with their so called employee tax experts saying TT has nothing to do with it once the customer transmits an efiled return to TT is just not correct. The efiled return is being transmitted to TT not directly to the IRS. Which is what most of us have figured out by now.
See for example https://money.stackexchange.com/questions/93784/when-you-e-file-your-taxes-with-turbotax-does-intuit-get-a-copy-of-your-persona which clarifies that a customer transmitting an efiled return through TT does not go directly to the IRS but instead first to the TT electronic processing center who then sends it on to the IRS (supposedly/eventually). So IMO I suspect some of the cases of transmittal limbo may very well be the result of TT internal processing center based on what we have seen where some customers have gone and filed elsewhere and gotten immediate acceptance/rejection (or within a few hours).
I am experiencing the same issue except I filed my taxes a month ago and they still have not even been approved. TurboTax estimated my return would be deposited to my bank account by 3/2, it is now 3/6 and my taxes have still not moved through the approval stage.
Of course if the problem is your return has not been accepted for some reason such as not transmitted by TT for whatever reason, you will just get an error message as I did indicating no such return/return not found.
If you had no special considerations delaying processing of returns (for certain credits/situations etc the IRS has indicated it would not start processing those returns until after a certain date), then you unfortunately may want to consider alternate filing methods. Some in TT limbo indicated that they received acceptance (or in one case rejection but at least a response) just hours after efiling with a different sw service. I ended up mailing a hard copy to the IRS as I just could not face having to redo my taxes again in another sw program this year.
Unfortunately typically the longer one waits to file the longer the IRS processing time between acceptance and getting refunds due to higher volumes of returns going in closer to the deadline.
We have definitely seen it which is why we are able to say that it has not been accepted or rejected, just received. I filed my taxes in early February, more than 2 months before the April 18th cut off date and just barely over a month from when we are allowed and able to start filing. It doesn’t seem feasible to file taxes through another system if the IRS states they’ve received our records already. Then they’d have duplicate records and it seems like that would further delay the process - perhaps I am wrong about this but it just seems like things would get messy rather quickly. Overall, I have never had issues like this. The delays are baffling. The lack of communication from the IRS is frustrating. The inability to speak to a human through their phone service is infuriating. It seems hopeless to troubleshoot because there are no answers provided and only AI can hear our questions.
