DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

intuit turbotax has made poor decisions in the past that have been reversed, because customers would not stand for it. Discontinuing the  CD version of turbo tax will not be tolerated by many customers and it will cost turbotax more than they plan on saving. I am asking turbotax to reverse this poorly thought out decision to discontinue the CD version and only offering downloads. I personally will not purchase a download and I am sure  they lose many current and future customers, because of this decision.

I am customer of Turbotax, I buy Business, and Home and Business for over 10 years. I buy both every year.

I do not want to change to other brands. Please offer the CD version for 2024 as previous years. Most likely I will not buy Turbotax if not available on a CD. It is very convenient if needed few years later.

I am a loyal customer. I recommended Turbotx to many friends and family members over the years and I am writing on their behalf.

@vlc1   Why do you want the CD?

You can burn the installation file to a CD or save to a usb flash drive. But since you now have to log into an Intuit Account all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to download to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac). Access your downloads here
    https://shop.turbotax.intuit.com/commerce/account/secure/login.jsp?pagecontext=download

You can buy an install CD for 2024 for $10 after you buy the download and a License Code
    https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021

But even if you have the CDs you won’t be able to reinstall 2020 or prior. They only support the last 3 years. And the License Code started in 2019. So 2019 and 2020 needs to connect to Turbo Tax to verify the License Code. But they only support the last 3 years. So you can’t install and activate 2020 and prior (then add a year going forward).

The problems are even bigger than no longer offering a CD.  A customer can no longer even buy a key-code product at a retail store. The only option is purchasing a membership to a warehouse outlet or opening an online account at a retailer to download. And to top of all that, another hefty price increase on the heels of the prior two years' increases. The combination of all these decisions is without question going to have negative repurcussions, and any notion of reversing things in the future will be futile once customers have moved on to another product/manufacturer.

    Well done Intuit.

I have been purchasing the CD's for many years. When an old computer failed I always had a CD to load, read and work through my returns when necessary. I have been going to ALL of the stores in my area that previously offered the CD and NONE have them available. I will MANUALLY re-enter ALL of my details to go to another program. I will no longer use this program and will do my best to steer others away from it as well. Yeah! Rah Rah for paperless, digital records. I have rental properties, investment properties, etc and this change in uploading and/or reading my returns from previous years adds multiple hours onto my tax prep time. THANK YOU INTUIT FOR MAKING TAX TIME SO MUCH MORE SPECIAL! Note the sarcasm in my review. I already moved my responsibility as a trustee to another tax program... I will move my personal to another as well.

    January 8, 2025

Sad, but not unexpected... I will move on to the other options available. It will take me a week to reload all of my information onto the new program. And maybe longer to load historical data, but it will be worth not finding the current CD for which I purchased a separate USB drive connection to be suddenly not available. I've struggled getting the program to work for several years, I purchased a separate trust tax program the last 2 years, I will look into something that gives me a more useful platform to work with... I don't really want to go back to the paper returns that I did from the IRS site previously, but I don't see Intuit giving me an option for this year.

    January 8, 2025

BTW the trust program was NOT Intuit. I spend way TOO much time working on my tax returns. I do NOT need to argue with the software people as well. Done. GONE. I am no longer a Turbo Tax client. I've moved on. I will go to another platform. Goodbye.

    January 8, 2025

BTW... I endorse and encourage change... This is not comment about being adverse to change that is not useful. I have been using a program for a family trust for 2 years now which allows me to SAVE THE PROGRAM with the download onto my laptop so that when I backup my system I have a usable product unlike Turbo Tax. This program, also correctly sets up a K1 for all of the participants in the trust. I couldn't get even that minimal help with Intuit for my state. Check out the various states they cover (maybe 7?). I am always looking at change. I enjoy change. Accusing me of a stone age attitude tells me more about you than me.

@1962corbing The other tax software companies have eliminated CD's this year too.   Technology continues to change---and most newer computers lack disk drives.    If you have already purchased your desktop download and have your license key, but really want a CD too, you can purchase one for an extra $10 from TT.

Download didn't work. Just spent 2.5 hours on the phone with tech support. They opened 2 investigations. I've bought the CD's for 25 years and never had a problem. I'M SWITCHING. Any recommendations for a better product from H&R, Taxslayer or ???

    January 10, 2025

They are all excellent products.  Not as good as TurboTax because TurboTax is the best.  None of them have CD's so it may be difficult for you to use any of them if you are unable to do a download.

    January 12, 2025

Amen!  Why disrupt a product and service to the general public which is widely popular and in-use year to year.  I'm lost without transferring my 2023 tax data from 2023 to 2024 return to zip through doing my taxes at home on via desktop using the CD.  Reverse this piss-poor business decision or lose my business.  I need to do my taxes very soon.....so produce the usual turbtax product with CD asap.

    January 13, 2025

You are confusing the situation. The desktop version has NOT gone away. Everything you state you want to do has NOT gone away. Everything will work as it has in the past. TurboTax has installed itself using 100% download for years whether you purchased using a CD or download (do not confuse desktop and online versions). For many years the CD has contained nothing more than a dowloader launcher.

    January 14, 2025

This is unacceptable. If Intuit is discontinuing their much loved AND appreciated CD software disk version (one and done purchase - not this pay extra $10 BS for a separate boot disk), then your customers deserve a nice price break from 2024 going forward. However, it appears, in Intuit's extreme lack of business wisdom, they're not only removing the CD's for their customers but ALSO raising their prices!  This is seriously a bad business model. Let's see how many customers, especially 55 and older, put up with this nonsense. We all have a bottom line we're willing to accept, Intuit, you're about at your limits based on poor decisions in previous years.

    January 14, 2025

TurboTax is NOT - NOT - NOT doing away with the desktop versy. PLEASE  PLEASE read the threads.

Once again, time and again, we have clearly stated...

The CDs have done NOTHING MORE than  launch a downloader app for MANY years. In other words, you have ALREADY been doing downloads of your favorite desktop app for MANY years.

Again, please listen carefully. The beloved desktop version has not gone away.

I KNOW. I have the 2024 version installed on my computer.

    January 14, 2025

Ok. Please share where you purchased your TT 2024 Deluxe version with CD disc in the package. Much appreciated! I don’t see this available at local retailers including Best Buy, Costco, Sam’s, etc. Thank you!

To get the CD from TurboTax you would have to first purchase the download edition and get the License code - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/

Once you have the license code you can purchase the CD for $10 - https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/
