This return has certain forms that can't be e-filed

I can't get Turbo Tax to e-file.  The final review doesn't show any errors.

All of the program updates are up-to-date.

It says "This return has certain forms that can't be e-filed, usually because of tax regulations, so you'll need to file by mail. For more details, select the Review tab, above, and continue through Final Review. To file by mail, select the file tab, continue and select File by Mail."

I don't want to wait for mailing it in.

what forms?  certain forms for your return may not yet be final so until they are you can't e-file. Turbotax is waiting for IRS approval so there's nothing it can do at this point. mailing your return with invalid forms may hold up your refund even more. The IRS won't open e-filing until 1/29. Submitting them now and they will just sit on Turbotax servers until that date so you can wait.

since this link for forms availability

I agree with you because this issue should not be happening!! Turbo Tax IT people Should have done a checks and balance before the software was ever released to make sure they had no bugs or glitches! Very frustrating and delaying

of your taxes being filed electronically creating  further delay of getting a refund if warranted.

I had the same error.  I called TT and they went through all the forms and told me everything looked correct.  Then proceeded to tell me i had to file by mail. I told them i've never had to do that in 15 years.   They just basically said well that's what you need to do, it's not our software.  BS!!!!!!

I went and bought HR block, filed my taxes online within 1  hour and both taxes have been accepted.  Refund requested and goodbye turbo tax

Its 1/31 and this error still persist?  Will there be a resolution soon

January 31, 2024

26 pages of this and no definitive answer!

TT needs to tell us if this problem is going to get fixed in tonight's update... OR NOT! We can't be expected to just wait around wondering when it will be resolved!

Same here.  It is now the 30th of January.  No errors, exact same info as last year, only changes in income.  Maybe TurboTax would like to refund me the cost of sending my Return certified mail if you don't fix this soon???   Been using TT for over 10 years and NEVER had to file by mail.  FIX IT or refund my money

I am missing Form 8936 for an EV purchase as well as State of Maine tax returns. This is holding up $15,000 in income tax refunds. This is a repeat problem over the past three years. Intuit’s credibility has sunk to a new low.

@colepalmer

The IRS Form 8936 Clean Vehicle Credit for tax year 2023 has not been finalized in TurboTax.

The form is scheduled to be available on 02/21/2024.

Go to this TurboTax website for forms availability - https://form-status.app.intuit.com/tax-forms-availability/formsavailability?albRedirect=true&product...

I can confirm that if you were having an issue filing because you had a Schedule C, the issue is resolved and I successfully e-filed both my FED and STATE.

Thanks TT for following up on here with the update but please ensure this does not happen in the future and if it does, just communicate more effectively in a timely manner.

Thanks

Try again, there's  a new TT update! I was having the same issue but decided to try again this morning. Once I updated, I was finally able to e-file...

The update TurboTax sent solved the issue. I was able to file my self employed taxes with no issue after I ran the update. 🙌

I was having the same problem.  Today, February 1, 2024, I updated my TurboTax Deluxe desktop version and tried to e-file again.  It worked!  They must have updated the software.  Please try again after updating.

February 1, 2024

Was able to file last night (after update) with Schedule C

February 2, 2024

I had the same problem... adding a Schedule C absolutely stopped it e-filing. They said it was a problem and they were working on it and then I got a message that said to run new updates and so today I did just that and now, we were successfully able to e-file today feb 2nd

Although frustrating, I applaud TT for not allowing clients to file their taxes with errors. It is not their fault that several new forms such as 7206 were not finalized earlier by the IRS. Allowing e-file, when the forms are not finalized can lead to errors which can come back to haunt later in life.

If you have self employed health insurance deductions form 7206 must be included on your return, even though it was not present for tax year 2022. You should not delete this form unless you do not have self employed insurance deductions.

Patience avoids errors. TT is not making life difficult for you, it is preventing filing incorrectly.

Good luck to all.

@pkm1  the majority of people here couldn’t file because of schedule C form which was available to file but the problem was on TT’s end. No applause from me.
